Frequently Asked Questions

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. It involves the use of medications,

MAT works by using medications that help reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings associated with substance use. These medications are carefully prescribed and administered as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Suboxone works by binding to the same receptors in the brain that opioids bind to, reducing withdrawal symptoms and cravings. The naloxone component is added to deter misuse.  Suboxone is administered as a prescription medication in the form of sublingual film or tablet, taken under the tongue. The specific dosage and administration schedule will be determined by your healthcare provider.

Vivitrol is an extended-release medication used in MAT to treat both opioid and alcohol addiction. It contains naltrexone as its active ingredient.  Vivitrol is administered as a once-monthly injection by a healthcare professional. This extended-release form ensures consistent medication coverage throughout the month, eliminating the need for daily dosing.

Sublocade is a prescription medication used in MAT to treat opioid addiction. It contains buprenorphine, an opioid partial agonist.

Sublocade is administered as a once-monthly injection by a healthcare professional. The injection is typically given in the abdominal area. It provides a sustained release of medication over the course of a month, eliminating the need for daily dosing.
